Ryujinkyo Koi Nobori Festival
Ryujinkyo Koi Nobori Festival
From late April to early May, about 1000 Koi-Nobori wind socks are flown about 100 m above the verdant Ryujinkyo Gorge. Viewed from the Great Ryujinkyo Suspension Bridge, you'll find it an amazing, magnificent scene.
Kairakuen and the Plum Festival
Kairakuen, one of the three most famous gardens in Japan and a resort well known for plum flower appreciation, joins hands with Kodokan Hall and other attractions to hold the Mito Plum Festival annually from 20 February to 31 March, when the plum trees are in full blossom. During this period, such events as outdoor ancient musical instrument performances, open-air tea parties, and the release of puppets into the river are held on weekends and holidays, presenting a very lively scene. The Plum Ambassadors, who are selected every year as sightseeing ambassadors of Mito, as well as a touring troupe, appear in a TV drama of Mito-Komon and dress up as Mito-Komon, Mito's second feudal lord in the Edo Period. They are always brilliant, and souvenir photos taken with them are extremely popular.
